Cute VS hot: What's the difference?

I've just been pondering if there is a difference between someone being "cute" and someone being "hot." Where and why is the line drawn? Which is preferable and why? And, finally, what do you think you are, or which would you rather be?

well, I don't really think you've got too much of a difference. It's just a term afterall.
Also, not meaning to sound...well... like anything, I've been called both cute and hot. So naturally I'm single. lmfao!

Cute is when you find them attractive. Hot is when you find them attractive with sexual overtones. As for which I'd rather be, it depends on the other person...

Cute is well the person wanting to hold you, but not very sexually attracted, and hot is well, you are fuckable!!!!
Let's hop in to bed!!!

I agree. I would associate "Hot" with sexually attractive. So, as for the question which i'd rather be ... I'd rather be cute. But I don'T think I am either of these two things.

So, going back to Jared's post, are you saying a hot person is not able to be thought of in the context of relationship potential? Why?

I somewhat can understand why. Maybe becaus they might not be loyal. "hot", in my opinion, is someone who doesn't mind changing partners quickly, so they might not be the most loyal people.

I have been told I am pretty but never hot, hmmmm, maybe that's a good thing...

No, if I want a relationship with someone then I will consider them cute. Hot is those people like porn stars that I'd never date or girls at the strip club, etc etc. If you have a porn star body then I would consider you cute if I wanted to go out with you, if that makes sence, but if you were a porn star then I wouldn't go out with you, so wouldn't consider you cute.

As you all can tell, Jared is basically meaning hot it sout of his league. So I will never be referred to as hot in his opinion. LOL. I agree though that cute is like sweet and likable, and hot has sexual context to it.

…then too, not to cool down this discussion, but there is another meaning to “hot’ in that someone could be saying of another, “Better stay outta that one’s way, hotter than anything…wonder what’s got that one so angry?”

I think you guys are right about the affectionate versus sexual overtones, but I think another important thing to mention is that these are not necessarily static characteristics of a person--i.e. it's not a fact about a person that they are either cute or hot. A pretty girl, for example, might be cute dressed in jeans and a tank-top while out shopping, and really hot in a bikini on the beach. So, it can be just a matter of mood.

I agree susanne.

I agree that cute seems more of an affectionate term and hot seems more sexual. I've been called both words, but I'd prefer to be called pretty or nice.

cute or hot... hmm, can i be both? Yes, cute is more cuddles and hugs type thing and hotness is more about sex and whatnat so, hmm, I'd say I'm both!

so am I! I'll make your heart melt then want to bang you!

Post 19 by Pure love (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Friday, 09-Jun-2006 15:30:35

Yeah, that makes sence though. Cute and hot is not a matter of looks, but of personality.

I've been called cute more than I've been called hot. Hot is more about how much you wanna smash 'em, and cute is how affectionate we are towards 'em. cute is like "Oh yeah, you gotta good personality, you look good, and wanna hold you, I'll be your's, ..." etc, someone worthy of love. Hot is more like "ok, I could never love you, but I sure as hell wanna bang you." haha, that works with men and women. I've been called hot, but those are the guys who just wanna get in my pants. lol You think with your heart when you call someone cute, you think with your lust when you call someone hot. You're not thinking at all when you call someone ugly. :)
